IN n’ OUT

INn’OUT.
Get in position.
Positions are the initial point in INn’OUT.
It is about black African women coming from Nigeria to Austria through different channels of human trafficking who work off their debts, often € 30,000 or more, for their journeys.
Leaving their homes is quite easy for these women. They want to escape the poverty of their country where promises about the Golden West are made. Traffickers use spells of vodoo priests who –if women do not follow their instructions- threaten to harm or kill their families in Nigeria.
SJ also allows visitors of the exhibition to get into the position of the prostitutes when they attend to the needs of their Austrian customers. She uses virtual space and pastes street prostitutes in the 15th disctrict of Vienna into Google Earth. Finally visitors can also take a look at the men who choose these African women to please them. Statements from an erotic forum selected by SJ leave no room for interpretation. So the gallery –located in the middle of a red-light district- allows anonymous and virtual access to prostitutes and their customers.
